Although meditation is about the mind, sometimes certain body sensations may arise while meditating.

Meditation is all about focusing on the mind. While meditating, some practitioners experience different feelings in their bodies, which can come as quite a surprise for someone who isn't familiar with them.

Even though focusing on body sensations may feel strange or seem annoying, they are not harmful. These would include feeling temperature changes, a lightheaded feeling, tingling, and a more acute sense of body movements. In addition, some people report having visions.

Feeling Hot Or Cold While Meditating

It's not uncommon to feel hot or cold during the course of a meditation. If having a tendency to feel cold, keep a blanket nearby that can be used to wrap around the body. If having a tendency to feel hot, consider opening a window before beginning to meditate. Kicking off his shoes and socks and wearing lightweight clothing can also help.

Feeling Tingling In The Body During Meditation

Experiencing tingling or numbness while meditating is rather common. This can occur in different areas of the body. Some experts in the field believe this is due to energy flowing through the chakras, (which are energy points in the body located at the top of the head, the brow, throat, chest, upper and lower abdomen.) The feeling has been described by some as having the sensation of ants crawling around.

That Feeling Of Swaying Or Floating During Meditation

Feeling like one is swaying from side to side or forward and backward is another body sensation reported while meditating. Although they experience the sensation, in reality, they are not moving at all. The same holds true for the feeling of floating during a meditation. Both of the above are also attributed to the flow of energy throughout the body.

Having Visions While Meditating

Sometimes, more experienced practitioners experience some kind of a vision while meditating. This can be in the form of lights or colors. They appear on the inside of the eyelids. Some people even see entire scenes, such as landscapes. When this occurs, one can either meditate on the vision, or, bring the focus back to the meditation originally started.

Other body sensations that can occur while meditating include feeling like the body is extending, throbbing, pressure on the eyeballs, and a lightheaded sensation. It may feel rather strange the first time that any of the body sensations are experienced, but, know that the sensations are common and it's not a cause for concern. It's just the body's way of reacting to a meditation.
